Liposuction
What is Liposuction?
It is known that the ideal level of fat in the human body is around 15 percent in men and 22 percent in women. These fats may not be homogeneously distributed in the body, even in the ideal ratio or higher than the ideal ratio. In other words, there may be more accumulation of these oils in certain areas.
In the past, fuller body lines were considered beautiful, but as the perception of beauty changed over time and anorexic models appeared on the catwalks, the appearance of thinness and hourglass became fashionable. Of course, medical research was carried out to eliminate excess fat, and in 1974 the first liposuction surgery was performed. With the advancement of technology over time, liposuction, that is, fat absorption, has undergone great changes. The most used liposuction techniques today:
Vacuum Assisted Liposuction (=Classical liposuction method): It is the removal of fats by suction with the help of vacuum.
Power Assisted Liposuction: It is the use of a special movable cannula and suctioning to mechanically broken fats in order to break down fats more easily.
Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction: It is the use of ultrasound energy to break down fats and then vacuum suction of the broken down fats.
Laser Assisted Liposuction: It is the absorption of fats by breaking down with laser energy. By applying energy at different wavelengths, the biggest advantage of this method is that the fats are melted more controlled and homogeneously, and that the skin is tightened.
Although the most accepted method is laser liposuction, any liposuction procedure is not a weight loss method. liposuction; It is the process of absorbing unwanted fat in some parts of the body (causing contour irregularity) with the help of cannulas, despite regular exercise and/or diet. The purpose of this procedure is to correct the contours rather than losing weight. Contrary to what is confused, “lipolysis” is the process of melting / breaking up fats with sound waves, mechanical trauma or laser. The absorption of fats after lipolysis is “liposuction”. This procedure is done by entering through 3 mm incisions (holes) with cannulas and there is no obvious scar.
The duration of the liposuction procedure varies according to the amount of fat to be extracted (absorbed) and the number of regions where the operation will be performed. While this procedure can be performed under sedation and local anesthesia if a small amount of fat is to be removed in a limited area, general anesthesia is required if large areas are to be intervened. Returning to work in the early period may also be possible in small amounts of liposuction, when a large amount of fat is removed, a rest period of at least 1 week is required. The amount of bruising, swelling and pain also varies according to the patient’s personal characteristics as well as the amount and area of fat removed. A corset should be worn for 2-4 weeks after the surgery. In general, it may take 1-2 months for the swelling to go away, depending on the amount of fat removed. The final result is obtained in 6 months-1 year, which is the period when wound healing is completed.
Liposuction procedure with or without laser; It can be applied to the hip, waist, back, calf, leg, inner knees, ankle, arm, breast and jowl areas. Although this process can improve your body contours and increase your self-confidence, it is necessary to continue protective diet and / or exercises in order for the result to be permanent. Ideal patients for Laser Liposuction; Patients with normal or near-normal body weight, tight and elastic skin structure, and excess fat in localized body areas. Depending on age, weight gain and giving birth, skin elasticity may decrease, and we are less likely to get results with liposuction in such patients. Since you cannot tighten an excessively sagging skin with laser, applying stretching methods gives better results in these people. In tense or slightly sagging skin, the tightening of the skin with Laser Liposuction gives very good results.
Since the 2nd generation devices have been used in Laser Liposuction devices, it has been possible to remove more fat (as the power has been increased). Again, even if oil extraction is not performed with these devices, skin tightening can be applied with skin tightening mode and positive results are obtained. If the laser liposuction method is used correctly and with realistic expectations in the right patient, very satisfactory results can be obtained.
Bleeding, infection, complications related to anesthesia, and systematic problems due to additional diseases can be seen in all surgeries. The most risky event of liposuction surgeries is embolism, that is, clotting. Although there are methods that can reduce the risk of embolism, this risk can never be reduced to zero. If adequate and proper massage is not performed after this surgery and the corset folds, folds may occur on the skin. If the elasticity of the skin is seriously impaired, loosening and sagging of the skin may occur due to insufficient tightening. Usually temporary
